Brooks Forsyth is a musician and songwriter from Boone, North Carolina. Brooks’ musical style encompasses a variety of genres, particularly within Americana: folk, country blues, bluegrass and roots rock. He has a large repertoire of original songs and a versatile guitar style consisting of both flatpicking and fingerpicking. Throughout the last 12 years, he has performed solo as well as with a variation of musical ensembles across the U.S.A.
Forsyth's 2018 album So Much Beyond Us, a musically diverse collection of songs, was recorded at the legendary Creative Workshop recording studio in Nashville, TN with producers Buzz and Parker Cason and featured a versatile cast of musicians including guitarist Sadler Vaden of Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit, Grand Old Opry fiddler Eamon McLoughlin, Miranda Lambert's bassist Michael Rinne, drummer Jon Radford, and Wanda Vick.
Since 2016, Forsyth has toured the United States, playing live shows and promoting his three albums, So Much Beyond Us, On The Lam And Lonesome, and Back In Cackalacky. His first two albums were recorded at Grenville Art Recording Studio in Boone, NC and have garnered attention on international radio.
Forsyth began playing in Western North Carolina in 2006. He is a founding member, lead singer, songwriterand guitarist of The Major Sevens. In 2008, the band released their first studio album Goodbye Baby, which initiated the growth of a regional following and lead to them being featured in venues and festivals in the Southeast. They have opened for acts such as Pokey Lafarge, Horse Feathers and Acoustic Syndicate.In 2010, in conjunction with MusicFest n' Sugar Grove, Brooks and his band mates were invited to a festival press conference where they performed for and with Doc Watson. After hearing the band's rendition of Duke Ellington's "Don't Mean A Thing", Doc exclaimed "Ah, country jazz!"
In 2013, Brooks played for the Global Southern Intiatives Conference at UNC Chapel Hill. He’s also frequently performed at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for Food City 300 and 500 and is aregular at Memorial Hall in Chapel Hill, NC, where he has played before acts such as Lyle Lovett, David Grisman, Bela Fleck, Chris Thile and The Punch Brothers, The Carolina Chocolate Drops and most recently, bluegrass legend Del McCoury in March of 2018.
